Terracotta Cooking Pot - Blue is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
This terracotta cooking pot makes slow-cooked recipes a pleasure to prepare: food does not stick, flavours are beautifully preserved, and heat is distributed gently and evenly. It can be used on a gas hob, in the oven or, for more traditional cooking, directly over hot embers.
Each pot is entirely handmade in the Alentejo. It is shaped on a potter’s wheel, then hand-painted using skills passed down through generations.
Local Alentejo clay, natural pigments and entirely handmade production in a workshop that is more than a century old give each piece its own distinctive character. Slight variations in shape, colour or decoration may occur: they reveal the artisan’s hand and make every pot truly unique.
Why I love it
- The gentle, even cooking that beautifully preserves flavours.

When you choose a piece from this remarkable collection, you are acquiring an object made from red clay and shaped by the hands of José Alves, one of the last potters to master the traditional potter’s wheel.
This family pottery workshop, whose roots go back to his great-great-grandfather, still stands in the same place today. "I thought the future of our business was under threat, but one of my daughters came to help me and brought a new sense of innovation through her artistic painting on the pieces," he explains with emotion.
Red clay pottery, known locally as "Olaria de barro vermelho", is particularly well suited to functional cookware and makes it possible to prepare exceptional stews: "In a terracotta pot, meat becomes exceptionally tender," says José Alves, reflecting both his expertise and his deep attachment to his craft.
